PlugShare and Getaround Announce Partnership To Incentivize the Sharing of Electric Vehicles on National Plug In Day

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - October 16, 2011 - Today, Xatori Inc., the electric vehicle software company behind the PlugShare app suite, and peer-to-peer car sharing service Getaround announced a partnership to reward members for sharing their vehicles.

In honor of the first National Plug In Day- an EV celebration in 22 cities, PlugShare and Getaround are offering the PlugShare community in select areas of California who list a vehicle on Getaround a financial incentive- $50- for contributing to the rise of car sharing and EV adoption. The partnership emphasizes the role peer-to-peer sharing has played in spurring EV infrastructure growth.

“Many of our users are excited by the notion of test-driving EVs,” said Sam Zaid, CEO of Getaround. “This partnership will encourage PlugShare users to list their cars for rent on Getaround. Whether it’s an EV or gasoline vehicle, a shared car reaps multiple benefits by saving everyone money and either accelerating EV adoption or alleviating the need for additional gasoline vehicles.”

PlugShare also recently announced the expansion of its network to the Web. By enabling access through the web as well as through mobile platforms, PlugShare allows anyone with an Internet connection to access the largest and most complete database of EV charging sites in the world. This community serves as a resource for Getaround users who have rented an electric vehicle, allowing them to charge the EV at a community member’s house or at a public charging station, thereby participating in and fostering the growth of the EV community.

“There is a growing segment of society that wants to see zero emission, advanced driving machines become the norm and these are the people on PlugShare and Getaround, sharing resources with each other in the name of a common goal,” said Forrest North, CEO of Xatori, Inc.. “You don’t have to spend a lot of money on a new car to be part of the solution. All you need is an outlet and an internet connection and you can become a part of the EV revolution.”

The partnership launches on National Plug In Day, the first celebration being hosted by Plug In America, the Sierra Club and the Electric Auto Association. On Sunday, October 16, 2011 hundreds of electric vehicle drivers from coast to coast will champion the benefits of plug-in vehicles with events taking place in at least 20 cities coast to coast.
